On our second day we will hike into the Forest of San Miguel del Valle following a hearty organic breakfast. On this trek you will witness the diversity of the Oaxacan vegetation, as the flora and fauna will differ greatly from the first day. We will begin by hiking down to the sacred area of La Neveria, where the people of this region gather every year on December 12th to celebrate the day of the Lady of Guadalupe. In addition, this area is also home to wild horses who we often see drinking from the lake. We will then make our way to the viewpoint and enter into the canyon of Cueva Iglesia. As we make our way through the scenic canyon, you will have an opportunity to explore some caves and learn more about the history of the Zapotec culture and the legends of the area. At the end of the hike, we return to the Zapotec community of San Antonio Cuajimoloyas where we will have another tasty lunch at the community restaurant. After our meal, we will visit the women’s mushroom co-op and you will have the option of taking a trip down the 1000 meter zipline.
This two day adventure is a perfect introduction to the beautiful Sierra Norte of Oaxaca and the Zapotec culture!
